Oregon Music Educators

We are pleased to announce the creation of the OSB Supplemental Music Assistance Grant!

OSB has been Oregon’s premier adult community symphonic band organization since 1986. Throughout the band’s history, we have eagerly partnered with school and community youth music programs to help improve access to music for the next generation of Oregon musicians. In 2018 the band decided to significantly expand our educational outreach initiatives by dedicating a portion of our annual fundraising proceeds to student-centered purposes. Early successes include subsidizing all student admissions to OSB performances, making them completely free to all K-12 students. (This is still true! Please encourage your students to attend any OSB performance free of charge!) The newest creation of our educational outreach initiative, though, is the most exciting yet! For the first time, we are sponsoring small grants to place cash directly in the hands of deserving music programs! We hope to enable your program to hire supplemental instructional assistance that can be invaluable to the education and retention of your students and can be financially out of reach for so many programs. Please submit the attached one-page application to fundraiser.osb@gmail.com by April 30, 2022, for consideration! FAQ and grant parameters are found below; please reach out to fundraiser.osb@gmail.com with any additional questions!

Who is eligible to apply? Any public or private school, or nonprofit community-based youth music program located in the state of Oregon.

Just band programs? No! We encourage choral, string, and elementary programs to apply as well!

How much can I receive? Requestors may apply for any amount up to $500 per school/program. Final award amounts will be determined by the number of applications received and the needs of the program.

What if I teach at more than one school? Awards are available on a per-school basis. Please submit a separate application for each school to be eligible to receive up to $500 PER SCHOOL.

What can the money be used for? This grant is available for the purposes of hiring supplemental instructional assistance such as clinicians, accompanists, private instructors, guest conductors, visiting artists, etc. It may NOT be used for capital purchases such as equipment or sheet music.

What are the application deadlines? To be considered for the 2022 grant, applications must be received by 11:59 PM on April 30, 2022. All applicants will be notified of their grant recipient status no later than May 15, 2022. Grant recipients will have until the end of the 2022-23 school year to use their awards; funds received must be spent by June 30, 2023.

Will OSB require proof of how my award was spent? While we will not require any formal paperwork or filings from you, we would love a note, short video, or student testimonial describing your uses of the award money and its impact on your students!
